Orchard View Clydes began with the marriage of Tammy Styer and Derry Furry. Tammy's father (Joe Styer of Bedford, PA) had draft horses most of the time Tammy was at home, so it should come as no surprise that Tammy wanted a draft or two for her household. Derry, who didn't spend his youth around horses, was lukewarm to the idea, until Tammy brought home the first Clydesdale pair. Before long, Derry was a convert, and Orchard View Clydes was soon born.
Tammy and Derry have now been working over 10 years to build their stable of Clydesdales, through selective breeding of their own horses as well as strategic purchases. Both Tammy and Derry drive and show the horses. Their children, Cory and Whitley, have been around the Clydesdales from birth, so working with the big horses comes naturally to them. Both have an aptitude for showing, with Cory winning many awards in Youth Cart classes and Whitley in Showmanship. Whitley sure was glad for the day when Cory moved up a division in the youth cart classes. Then she didn't have to worry about beating her big brother in competition!
